Genealogy Research

Genealogy is the study of our ancestry and family history.

Discovering our "roots" requires a knowledge of the sources of records that are available to identify who our ancestors were, including censuses, church records, civil vital statistics, land records, probate records, histories of counties, towns, and villages, and a plethora of other sources.

The availability of each of these types of records will vary both according to the geographic area and the time period being researched.  Hiring a researcher who is familiar with all source for a particular area is vital to ensuring a complete and accurate family history.

One of the ways of ensuring a high quality of research is to employ a researcher who has obtained professional certification as a genealogist.  In the Maritime Provinces area of Canada, the Genealogical Institute of the Maritimes is the certifying body for genealogists.

Mr. Tony LeBlanc, principal researcher at Chocolate River, received his certification in 1995, and has over 18 years experience with research in southeastern New Brunswick and Acadian genealogy.
